What Is Mormon Guard?
Mormon Guard is a website committed to helping faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints share the gospel online. Our purpose is to do more than just help members start a blog, set up a social network account or post YouTube videos. Thousands of members across the world are already doing this on a daily basis. Our purpose is to go a step further and help members who post new content online to attract visitors to their content.
Think about online content and how you get your information. Suppose you wanted to learn about Jehovah’s Witnesses. What is the first thing you would do to start your research? Would you go to Facebook and ask a Jehovah’s Witness you may know? Would you go to YouTube and look for videos of Jehovah’s Witnesses sharing their beliefs? Or would you go to a search engine like Google and look up information? Chances are if you are like most people you are going to Google, Bing or some other search engine.
Why would anyone think the situation is different for Mormons? Recent research has shown that most people in the United States don’t know much of anything about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most of these people don’t even know a Mormon. These people are going to Google and other search engines to find information about us. And what are they finding?
Research tells us that when members of our own faith search for resources, they tend to search using LDS in their search. When non-members search for things about our faith, they tend to use the word Mormon. According to Google, here are some search phrases people have used with the word Mormon, along with how many times globally each phrase is searched on average in a month:
mormon beliefs: 22,200
mormon underwear: 12,100
mormon church: 6,600
mormon religion: 3,600
mormon temple: 2,900
mormon missionaries: 1,600
mormon rules: 1,300
You get the picture. People are going to Google thousands of times each month to find information about our church. So I ask again- what are they finding? As of the time of this writing, when I searched Google for “mormon underwear” I found exmormon.org as the fourth result. I won’t even get started on the image results. When I search “what do mormons really believe” I get exmormon.org as the first result. People are searching for information about us, and what they are finding isn’t always very good.
That’s where Mormon Guard steps in. We will provide you the information, tools, education and resources necessary to have your content display prominently in Google and other search engines. We believe the best way to defend the truth online is to win the war in the search engine results. All you need is a website and a desire to fight this battle.
If you want to get started with the Mormon Guard, the first step is to create a profile at Mormon.org. This is how we can verify you are a member of the Church. Once you have your profile, come back here and register to join the Mormon Guard.
